HPP LUNDS GOES TO THE AID OF NEXT GEN ENGINEERS

A desire to support the engineers of tomorrow has driven HPP Lunds to support a motorsport team for the first time

For many years the Society of Automotive Engineers – Australasia (SAE-A) has been conducting its Formula SAE-A event, which is a yearly competition where university students design, build and compete in their very own Formula-style open-wheeled racing car.
These are the young engineers of tomorrow who will work in fields such as mechanical and electrical, designing and developing new and innovative products and systems.
This event helps them develop the skills they will need for their upcoming employment and HPP Lunds says it recognises that these students are our future.
As such, the company has moved to make a positive contribution to assist with their efforts by sponsoring the Melbourne University team, MUR Motorsports, which is made up of 72 student engineers.
By supplying products from its wide range, including JB Weld adhesives and epoxies, grinding and cutting wheels, tools, equipment and accessories, HPP Lunds has provided consumables and tools which ease the financial pressure on MUR – after all, this is a student team.

“This is the first time that we have become involved with a motorsport team,” HPP Lunds Marketing and Sales Manager, Ben Leonard, said.
“It is the fact that the team is made up of eager young engineers that swayed us – we want to be a part of ensuring that Australia has these young people in our industry in the future.
“We are a relatively small company compared with the sponsors of major local motorsport teams, so we wanted to assist teams that mirrored our size.
“We came across MUR at this year’s Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo and decided this was something which we wanted to become part of our indirect marketing.”
Ben explained that the benefits for HPP Lunds boiled down to having experienced and capable engineers designing for the automotive aftermarket in years to come.
“As a distributor, HPP Lunds relies on engineers to develop Australian market ready products that suit local conditions,” Bend said.
“These young engineers will be able to do that once they complete their studies.
“For our customers having engineering students use the products means that they will be familiar with them and perhaps in the future be in a position to design some themselves.
“As an example, we carry a range of 4×4 parts and accessories under the Lunds banner, and we know we need to provide parts that will withstand the rigours of the Australian offroad environment.”
The partnership also offers additional benefits to HPP Lunds.

“Not only will our products assist the team to fulfill its ambitions in Formula SAE-A, but it will also ensure these future engineers become familiar with HPP Lunds products and the value they bring to the automotive environment,” Ben said.
“MUR has already reported to us that the products we have supplied have contributed massively to their car project across many areas.
“The team has said that such a big project like building a car takes a lot of consumables, and HPP Lunds providing products has alleviated some of the financial pressure on the team, thus freeing up funds for important tasks such as track testing days.
“For instance, grinding wheels, cutting wheels and microfibre cloths have been essential in nearly every garage task.
“Meanwhile, the chassis team has used products to help clean and prepare the chassis and jig for welding; and the low voltage team has used products in line with its component manufacture.
“Other tools have been helpful with vacuum pump, oil changes, brake fluid changes and composites manufacturing, and our JB Weld products are always in great demand.
“We are proud to play a role in supporting the next generation Australian automotive engineers, and look forward to seeing how they excel into the future.”
