This often leads to false-economy decisions that prioritise short-term savings, often at the cost of expensive repairs further down the line.
When it comes to cars, and especially their engines, the secret to longevity is maintenance. Regularly and well-maintained cars will last longer and perform better than their neglected counterparts.
While this may seem obvious, recent market studies show that consumers are increasingly prone to skipping their cars’ recommended services and/or use inferior lubricants and additives in order to save money.
Unfortunately, these savings often result in expensive repairs or part replacements later on.
It is a matter of trust
There are some a products on the automotive aftermarket that are often not fit for purpose.
To the average consumer, they all look similar so we can’t blame them for choosing products based on the price alone.
Educating the consumers and explaining the hidden danger of using inferior products rests on you – the automotive professional. This is why building relationships with your customers is more important than ever.
“Technicians build trust with customers, often over many years,” JLM Lubricants Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Gilbert Groot, said.
“When times are tough there’s an even greater emphasis on keeping repair and service costs within limits customers can afford.
“Top quality additives, or Liquid Tools, as we call them, can often take the place of a replacement part – with everyone winning!”
JLM Lubricants states that from DPF cleaners, intake cleaners, and injector cleaners to engine oil additives and lubricants, using premium quality, proven products not only prevents unexpected (and unbudgeted) problems, but ensures reliability, performance and longevity.
A smooth-running, economical vehicle, performing at its optimum level means a happy customer; a customer which keeps returning for regular maintenance and service visits.

The big picture
“There are around 30,000 parts in a modern car, from the tiniest nuts and bolts to the engine block,” Gilbert said.
“Every time a technician fixes a part using one of our products, instead of replacing that part, it not only saves the workshop time and the customer money, it is one less part to order, one less part for scrappage.
“For vehicles where a part replacement cost either exceeds the vehicle’s value or it’s just not economically viable for the customer, using our products in a preventative way, or indeed, as a substitute for a new part, is the smart alternative.
“Take a Diesel Particulate Filter as an example. Cleaning a clogged DPF using even the most expensive, heavy-duty JLM cleaning products will still only cost a fraction of a replacement DPF, not to mention the time savings.
“This is where we’re seeing the biggest breakthroughs, in terms of the rising demand for JLM Lubricants’ products.”
With the global commitment to “Repair over Replace” growing rapidly, automotive workshops are playing a key part in the circular economy.
Choose wisely
JLM says its commitment to providing premium, effective, trade-grade solutions for common problems is evident in every product.
It states that recognised testing credentials, clear labelling of all active ingredients and focus on safety and environmental impact set it apart from the multitude of “generic” products that claim to perform the same function.
“We’ve conducted studies that clearly show most generic products as ineffective at best and harmful at worst,” Gilbert said.
“Sadly, those products offset their shortcomings with an attractive, low price. In this case, the old saying You Get What You Pay For rings true.”
JLM explains that its brand mission is to develop and manufacture products that are in sync with the “Lean” philosophy which promotes the flow of value to the customer through the guiding tenets of continuous improvement and eliminating waste in processes to deliver more value with fewer resources.
It states that JLM’s development team works closely with automotive technicians, ensuring the new products and the existing formulas each play an important part in the Repair over Replace revolution.
