A SUPERSPRINT CELEBRATION IN TASSIE

Castrol has continued its 125 year celebrations by recognising Chris Colgrave Automotive

As Castrol celebrates its 125th year, it has been going to great lengths to acknowledge the independent workshops that put their faith in ‘the green, white and red’ year after year.
As part of this, Castrol surprised Chris Colgrave and his team at Chris Colgrave Automotive with an exclusive Supercars experience at the recent Tasmania SuperSprint, while carrying the Chris Colgrave Automotive logo on the Castrol Racing Tickford Ford Mustang.
“To have a business like ours, and our logo on the front of that car…it is awesome. It is something that I would never ever have dreamed of,” Chris said.
“It is reward for all our hard work over the years.”
Chris’ journey to workshop ownership began in the late 1960s as a 13-year-old selling pints and quarts of Castrol at his local service station.
Not long after, Chris started his apprenticeship, worked his way up to Service Manager in a dealership, and eventually opened his own workshop; Chris Colgrave Automotive in Launceston.
Today, Chris said his workshop’s point of difference was “good old fashioned customer service.”
“If you’ve got happy customers, you’ve got a good business,” Chris said.
“We have loyal customers that I originally had back at the dealership…their children come to us, their grandchildren come to us.
“I like to give the customers what they pay for – quality parts and products. The rest of it just takes care of itself.”
Having had a great experience with their products over the years, Chris said he had chosen Castrol when he opened his own workshop.
“I didn’t have to worry about the quality…when you’re on a good thing just stick to it,” he said.
“We get a lot of cars coming through the door that are still under warranty. We could have cars coming in with 5000km on them.”
His advice to new workshop owners was to “use good quality products, give good customer service, and don’t spend every dollar that comes through the door.”
