AUTOBARN CHAMPIONS MEN’S HEALTH
Autobarn called on car lovers to join in on supporting Movember on Father’s Day
Autobarn, which states it is Australia’s leading auto parts store and car accessories retailer, says it was pleased to partner with Movember on Father’s Day recently to support and spark important conversations around raising the profile of men’s health, while raising almost $73,000 in funds for the cause.
When shopping for dad or a special male figure at Autobarn between the 12th of August and the 1st of September, customers at nationwide Autobarn locations could round up or donate to further support Movember’s important cause areas (Testicular Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention) and impactful health and wellbeing programs.
As part of the partnership, Autobarn stepped outside of Movember’s usual fundraising period to provide support and bring awareness to Movember and its health initiatives which continue all year round, and importantly highlight how while fatherhood is an exciting change in a man’s life, it can also come with a range of challenges.
Movember’s recent Real Face of Men’s Health report highlights that over the early parenting years, fathers were 1.4 times more likely to experience psychological distress than the Australian male population, and kids who have dads who’ve experienced depression are 42 percent more likely to go through depression themselves.
Autobarn says the partnership is a testament to its commitment to supporting Aussie men; whether that be bringing the car community together to share knowledge and a passion for automotive; or through its support of charity partner Movember.
“A big thanks to everyone who got behind the Autobarn campaign to support men’s health,” Bapcor Retail Executive General Manager, Megan Foster, said.
“Over 77,000 of our fantastic customers all the way from Devonport to Bundaberg and Gympie to Wagga donated to the cause, which was an incredible result. Between our customers and team members we raised nearly $73,000 for Movember to support men’s health projects, which we’re absolutely thrilled with!”
Just as you would take your car to the mechanic if something didn’t seem right, it is important to speak to a health professional if something doesn’t seem right with your health.
Tickford Race Team Driver Thomas Randle agrees with this sentiment, as he was diagnosed and fought testicular cancer; one of the most common cancers among young men.
“It is fantastic to see Autobarn, one of Tickford Racing Team’s sponsors, supporting a great initiative in Movember, and one that is close to my heart,” Thomas said.
Movember Chief Growth Officer, Korey Allchin, said its partnership with Autobarn allowed it to spark up important conversations with men and their families across the country this Father’s Day and beyond.
“Our recent Real Face of Men’s Health report shows us, that on average, premature death of men in rural areas are 3.5 times higher than those in inner metropolitan areas,” Korey said.
“In the lead-up to Father’s Day, with thanks to customers, Autobarn has raised a considerable amount for Movember and is helping lift the profiles of Men’s Health. The funds raised will go towards supporting innovative world-class men’s health projects in key focus areas – mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.”
