RACQ technician Luke Ashmore is among the first Electric Vehicle (EV) apprentices enrolled in Queensland

Luke is taking on a second apprenticeship following completion of his initial Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30620).
Enrolled as an apprentice in the Certificate III in Automotive Electric Vehicle Technology (AUR32721) at TAFE Queensland’s Acacia Ridge campus, Luke is making use of the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s funding this essential apprenticeship course attracts.
“The funding makes my life a lot easier, having my training paid for rather than having to take a loan for my education, it’s already funded for me and I think that’s amazing,” Luke said.
“To get the qualification without having to pay the fees myself makes a huge difference.
“It will massively increase the capability of my work because our fleet is transitioning to EVs soon and so being able to work on all our vehicles as opposed to only some vehicles will make a huge difference for me and my job opportunities.
“I’d definitely recommend other people start the EV Apprenticeship, it is something that we will all need soon so to get ahead now and be ready for those vehicles is great.”
TAFE Queensland has also been upskilling existing apprentice supervisors in leading EV dealerships, who have completed manufacturer administered training already, into the Certificate III in Automotive Electric Vehicle Technology (AUR32721) to allow them to supervise the next generation of apprentices.
