Malcolm Dunning is an industry legend

Mal Dunning commenced his illustrious career with Repco on the 19th of December in 1977 and achieved an incredible milestone of 45 years with the company on the 19th of December 2022.
Mal has only ever worked for Repco, a true testament to his loyalty, commitment, dedication and passion to the Repco business. His first role was as a Spare Parts Sales Cadet at Repco Head Office in Turbot Street Brisbane City and achieved the “Top Sales Cadet Award” in his first year with Repco.
Mal progressed through several trade sales roles at Repco Head Office and Repco Coopers Plains and was promoted to manage the Brisbane Head Office Spare Parts Division in 1981.
After a year in this role, he was transferred to manage a struggling Repco Taringa store and within six years this store became one of the most profitable stores in Queensland. Mal held this role for 14 years after which he was promoted to Regional Manager, looking after 23 stores in South East Queensland in 1992
After two years as Regional Manager there was an opportunity in the Queensland Equipment Department for a State Sales Manager and Mal moved into that role for another 14 years until the role of Queensland State Sales Manager came up, which he grabbed with both hands.
Mal received the highly acclaimed Repco Employee REACH Awards for “Innovator of the Year 2011,” followed by the “Zone Leadership Team Member of the Year 2014” Award.
The pinnacle of Mal’s recognition by Repco was his induction into the Repco “Hall of Fame” in 2016.
Over a number of years, the Queensland State Sales Manager role grew to encompass all of NSW and ACT stores, and is now referred to as the North East Zone comprising of 164 stores.
Mal has always been involved with the Automotive Trade Business and is constantly looking at ways to improve customer service and assist trade customers to enhance their business.
His energy to inspire and motivate the Sales Team means a 5.30am email each morning to set the tone for the day. This coupled by his passion for new products means he is always on the lookout for the next big thing that Repco can take to market.
Mal said he has had the pleasure of working with some great senior managers throughout his career and is ever grateful for their support over his journey.
Repco celebrated it’s 100 Year Anniversary in 2022 and Mal says he is extremely proud to have worked for the company for almost half of this time.
When asked what motivated him to work for Repco for 45 years, his reply was simple, “Repco is an amazing company to work for with a great culture and dedicated people.”
