RYCO IN THE FAST LANE
Filtration company to showcase its quality Supercars inspired products at AAAExpo
Ryco says it is passionate about developing filtration applications not just for passenger vehicles, but for motorsport enthusiasts and performance vehicles alike. It was this that lead to its Official Filtration Partnership with the Australian Supercars Championship.
When first connecting with Supercars, Ryco understood that the category wanted to extend engine life on their vehicles to reduce rebuild frequency, with filtration playing a key role.
Race vehicles have traditionally used filters prioritising fluid-flow under the belief that by reducing flow restrictions this would in-turn increase engine performance. This meant Supercars teams were using filters with media that would act closer to the way a sieve does; allowing high flow but not filtering anywhere near what’s necessary to prevent engine damage.
With this in mind, Ryco developed a bespoke range of air, fuel, and oil filters that could be applied to the new GEN3 platform. The development of these filters provided ideal filtration efficiencies, both maximising engine life while also delivering outstanding performance. Importantly though, it meant that future iterations of these filters would include applications for passenger vehicles.
Ryco engineers have continued to design new ways to transfer this successful technology to passenger vehicles. Ryco’s latest release, the A5001R Ryco NanoCel High Efficiency Air Filter, was developed and tested in Australia to do just that.
It is made of nano-fibre coated media with patented honeycomb cell pleating construction, which was the inspiration behind the name, Ryco NanoCel. A5001R includes the unique Supercars seal and incorporates a total of 4.2 times more filtration media compared to the OE equivalent which only has 1sqm of media. Importantly, it’s design kept true 4×4 enthusiasts in mind, with the filtration media being both flame retardant and hydrophobic, meaning that in either extremely dry conditions or water crossings, it never loses its functionality.
Testing the filters after each race has proven that high efficiency filtration will not negate a vehicle’s high-performance capabilities. The research that has gone into Supercars confirmed definitively that dust ingestion directly correlates to engine wear and engine life. It has meant that this project now extends further than motorsport, to an interrogation into how this technology can be translated into advancements in passenger vehicle filtration. A5001R is just the first of these offerings, with more in development to provide customers with options that will be the first of their kind on the market.
